HA NOI — Tran Vinh, a resident of the central province of Quang Tri, unearthed the remains of soldiers yesterday while farming. He immediately reported the findings to the authorities of Cam Thanh town in Cam Lo District. The town's veteran and civil defence team then found many remains, including shin and arm bones and skulls. The remains and relics found were believed to belong to 158 commandos who died in an encounter against the Americans in 1968 and were buried in a mass grave. The district and authorised agencies are continuing the search for additional remains.
Korean woman dies in hotel suicide plungeQUANG NINH — Police believe South Korean Pioun Su Yoen, 58, committed suicide when she plunged from the 6th-floor room of the Sao Mai Hotel in Ha Long City's Tuan Chau Ward late Monday afternoon.
The woman was reportedly among 19 Korean tourists who arrived at the hotel the previous day.
Traffic collision victims compensated
HA TINH — At least 26 people were injured when a coach and a truck collided on National Highway 1A in central Ha Tinh Province's Ky Anh District yesterday.
The provincial Traffic Safety Committee provided VND1 million (US$51) for each of the seriously injured and VND500,000 ($26) for the remainder. — VNS
