It took armed police and local military force half an hour to catch two men who killed a senior official of Phu Nhuan District at a house in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday afternoon.
Dang Thu Hong, deputy secretary of the district's Party Committee, was stabbed to death by 20-year-old Luong Hoai Sang and 30-year-old Nguyen Trong Nhan.
The two then jumped on the roof of the house owned by Bui Ngo Thi My, head of the district Department of Natural Resources and Environment, to escape.
Police said the two men arrived at the house at 1:00 pm to have a talk with My about Nhan’s wife who had been laid off by the department.
When the talk turned into a fierce quarrel and after the men seriously injured My and her daughter, Hong arrived at the scene and shouted for help.
The two men then killed Hong with a knife, initial investigations showed.
As the house is opposite to the local military station, the killers who were trying to run away via the house’s roof were seen by local military force.
Armed police then arrived at the site for the chase.
