HA NOI - Businesses in Ha Noi have launched plans to increase salaries to attract employees in the final months of this year, reported labour management agencies.
According to statistics, Ha Noi has a high unemployment rate but businesses constantly struggle to maintain a full workforce.
The main reason is due to low salaries.
The average salary for a worker without a degree has risen to between VND2 million and VND2.5 million a month compared to VND1.6 million at the start of the year.
A consultant from Interserco Job Service Company said it had advised a transport company to increase its starting salary for new employees by VND300,000 per month and as a result, recruitment had gone up.
However, employers have only been able to increase salaries by a few hundred thousand dong, which hasn't been enough to hold on to workers.
Nguyen Van Thang, an official from a company called Cavico that had taken similar measures ,said it was only a stop-gap measure that had created a salary race among businesses.
Unfortunately, the race had created an unstable employment market, as workers were constantly searching for positions that offered higher salaries, Thang added. - VNS
