Do Ngoc Linh and Ma Thi Thuy Tra, 11th grade students from the northern Thai Nguyen Province, will represent Vietnam at the international Junior Water Prize competition held in Stockholm, Sweden next month.
They will make a brief presentation of their project themed “Funny scientific stories to raise public awareness of the water environment.”
It had helped them win the first prize at a national contest on “Improving Water Usage and Protecting Water Resources” organized by the Ministries of Natural Resource and Environment and Education and Training and the Sweden embassy in July.
The Junior Water Prize brings together the world’s brightest young scientists to encourage their interest in water and the environment.
During their time in Stockholm, winners of national competitions get the opportunity to meet and learn from leaders of the global water community and make lifelong friendships with international counterparts who share a passion for water and science.
The competitions are open to people ages between 15 and 20 who have conducted water-related scientific, social, or environmental projects.
The winner will get a US$5,000 prize and a trophy. The event will be held from September 4 to 9 this year.
Ceren Burçak Dag of Turkey won the prize in 2009.
